About Production

Grown by smallholder farmers across Western and Central Kenya at elevations of 1,400 - 2,000 meters, this coffee consistently features a delicate yet balanced flavor.

The coffee cherries (composed of SL28, SL34, and Ruiru 11 varietals) are handpicked, fully washed, and carefully dried on raised beds, showcasing the country’s meticulous processing traditions.

Kenya’s coffee story is remarkable: though cultivation started later than in neighboring countries, just under a million smallholders produce ~70% of the nation’s coffee today.

Fun fact: Ruiru 11 is a high-yielding and compact hybrid variety released in Kenya in the '80's and bred for its tolerance to coffee leaf rust and resistance to coffee berry disease (CBD)... a great example of science supporting sustainability in the cup.
