International Coffee Day 2025: Why Collaboration Matters In Coffee Sustainability
Every year on October 1, the world comes together to celebrate International Coffee Day (ICD). Beyond celebrating the ritual we all love, ICD is a chance to acknowledge the challenges and opportunities facing coffee growers around the globe.
This year, the International Coffee Organization (ICO) set the theme as “Embracing Collaboration More Than Ever.”
Why Collaboration?
Our beloved beverage of choice sits atop a deeply interwoven global coffee community. From farmers tending their trees to roasters bringing out flavor, to baristas and consumers enjoying the final cup, every link in the chain matters.
Specifically, the ICO's intent is the raise awareness on how coffee's interconnectedness positions it as a powerful driver for sustainable development and resilient communities.
Coffee growers face many challenges, e.g.,
- Climate change impacting harvests
- Volatile market prices
- The need for fair, sustainable livelihoods
Collaboration ensures that knowledge and value is shared evenly and fairly across the entire chain. As Vanúsia Nogueira, Executive Director, ICO puts it, "when farmers, cooperatives, researchers, roasters, traders, baristas and consumers work together, we create opportunities for income, resilience and environmental stewardship."
Our Place in the Journey
At Katï Coffee, collaboration means:
- Responsible sourcing: procuring specialty coffee with fairness and transparency
- Thoughtful roasting: highlighting what makes each bean unique
- Creating shared experience: bringing you coffees that connect you directly to the people and places behind each harvest
Every bag of coffee you enjoy helps sustain a segment of this expansive value chain.
How You Can Participate
- Choose consciously: buy from roasters who share transparency and sourcing values
- Support growers: fair prices and demand for quality beans directly impact farming communities
